The Fiesta de la Castaña y el Boniato, affectionately known as Maroween, is a cherished annual event in the village of Maro, part of the municipality of Nerja. Celebrated on 31 October, this festival uniquely blends traditional Andalusian customs with Halloween festivities, offering attendees a rich cultural experience.

  • Traditional Delicacies: Enjoy over 100 kilograms of roasted chestnuts and oven-baked sweet potatoes, prepared in the traditional style and offered by local residents. 

  • Horror Parade: A lively procession featuring participants in creative and spooky costumes, adding a Halloween flair to the festivities. 

  • Live Music and Dancing: The village square comes alive with music and dancing, fostering a warm and friendly atmosphere.

  • Decorations: The streets and main square are adorned with pumpkins, candles, and tools associated with sweet potato cultivation, enhancing the festive ambiance.
