The Fiesta de la Castaña y el Boniato, affectionately known as Maroween, is a cherished annual event in the village of Maro, part of the municipality of Nerja. Celebrated on 31 October, this festival uniquely blends traditional Andalusian customs with Halloween festivities, offering attendees a rich cultural experience.

Festival Highlights

Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities that celebrate both the autumn harvest and the spooky spirit of Halloween:

  • Traditional Delicacies: Enjoy roasted chestnuts and oven-baked sweet potatoes, prepared in the traditional style and offered by local residents. 

  • Horror Parade: A lively procession featuring participants in creative and spooky costumes, adding a Halloween flair to the festivities. 

  • Live Music and Dancing: The village square comes alive with music and dancing, fostering a warm and friendly atmosphere.

  • Decorations: The streets and main square are adorned with pumpkins, candles, and tools associated with sweet potato cultivation, enhancing the festive ambiance.

FULL SCHEDULE

17:00Terrifying Parade through the streets of Maro with the Vaso Largo Band.
Route: Calle San Miguel (entrance to Maro), Calle Real, ending at Plaza de la Iglesia de Las Maravillas.

17:30 – Children’s show with Amapola and Perdigón (Plaza de la Iglesia).

18:00 – Opening of attractions.

18:30Gincana with the Taller de Teatro de los Sentidos and Trick or Treat.

19:00 – Night falls and we begin the tasting of traditional roasted chestnuts and sweet potatoes.
19:00 – Enjoy music with DJ Toulalan.

19:30Children’s costume contest, with participants parading along the red carpet for the delight of the public and the jury.

20:00 – Performance by the Zumba group Gema y Jotxan.

20:30Prize-giving for the children’s contests.

21:00 – With DJ Toulalan, the adult costume contest begins, also on the red carpet.

22:00Prize-giving for the adult costume contest and for the most terrifying house façade.

22:30 – The party continues with DJ Toulalan.

23:00 – Live performance by Carmen Soto. After the show, we continue enjoying DJ Toulalan until 02:00.
