Cruces de Mayo

The Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses) festival in Nerja is a vibrant celebration of spring and community spirit. In 2025, the event took place on Saturday, 3 May, featuring thirteen beautifully decorated crosses displayed throughout Nerja and the nearby village of Maro.

What to Expect

Each cross, adorned with flowers and traditional decorations, is crafted by local associations, neighbourhood groups, and residents. These displays often include elements such as embroidered shawls, ceramic pots, and symbolic items reflecting Andalusian culture.

The festival fosters a festive atmosphere with live music, traditional dances, and local delicacies. Visitors can enjoy flamenco performances, sample regional foods, and participate in community gatherings around the crosses.
