Ferias & Fiestas in the Axarquía and Málaga

Ferias & Fiestas in the Axarquía and Málaga

August in Málaga province means warm summer nights, music filling village squares, dancing, food, traditions and, of course, the ferias.

From small village celebrations in the Axarquía to the huge Feria de Málaga, August is one of the most festive months of the year. And alongside the traditional ferias, two of the Axarquía's most famous summer celebrations — Cómpeta's Noche del Vino and Frigiliana's Festival 3 Culturas — make this a fantastic month to get out and experience the area.

Here are some of the highlights to put in your diary:

  • 31 July–2 August – Feria de Macharaviaya
A traditional village feria in historic Macharaviaya, bringing the village together for a weekend of summer celebrations.

  • 31 July–2 August – Feria de Benamargosa
Another classic Axarquía village feria, with the atmosphere, music and late summer nights that make the smaller local ferias so much fun.

  • 31 July–2 August – Feria de Torre de Benagalbón
Head towards the coast for the summer feria in Torre de Benagalbón, part of the Rincón de la Victoria municipality.

  • Early August – Feria de Canillas de Albaida
The white village of Canillas de Albaida traditionally celebrates its August feria during the first weekend of the month, with festivities taking over the village.

  • 6–9 August – Feria de Alcaucín
Alcaucín celebrates its summer feria with several days of festivities in this beautiful village at the foot of the Sierra de Tejeda.

  • 15 August – Noche del Vino, Cómpeta
One of the Axarquía's best-known summer celebrations. Cómpeta celebrates its wine-making heritage and famous Moscatel wine with a day and night of tradition, local food and wine, music and festivities.

  • 15–22 August – Feria de Málaga
The biggest feria on our list! Málaga comes alive for eight days, with celebrations in the historic centre during the day and the Real de la Feria at Cortijo de Torres taking over in the evening. The 2026 dates have been officially confirmed as 15–22 August.

  • Around 20 August – Feria de Periana
Periana's traditional August feria brings another opportunity to experience a proper village celebration in the heart of the Axarquía. Look out for the final 2026 programme and dates.

  • 27–30 August – Festival Frigiliana 3 Culturas
August ends with one of the area's most colourful and atmospheric celebrations. Frigiliana's Festival 3 Culturas celebrates the Christian, Muslim and Jewish heritage of the village through music, gastronomy, crafts, culture and its popular market. The 2026 festival is confirmed for 27–30 August.

Summer is for celebrating

Whether you fancy the intimacy of a village feria, a glass of Moscatel in Cómpeta, the huge party atmosphere of Málaga or wandering through the decorated streets of Frigiliana during 3 Culturas, August offers plenty of reasons to head out and celebrate.

Remember that programmes and timings for some of the smaller village ferias are still being announced, so always check the latest information before setting off.
