Nybakat – A Taste of Sweden by Burriana Beach

Just a short stroll from Nerja’s beautiful Burriana Beach, Nybakat is a Swedish bakery and café where tradition meets quality. Meaning “freshly baked” in Swedish, Nybakat offers an elegant selection of artisan breads, sourdough loaves, and classic Swedish pastries – all made with carefully selected, high-end ingredients.

Enjoy cinnamon buns (kanelbullar), chocolate balls (chokladbollar), cookies, and seasonal cakes, along with strong Swedish coffee, a variety of teas, and refreshing drinks. Light salads are also available, making it a perfect stop for both sweet cravings and a healthy bite.

When Nybakat opened, we were genuinely excited. Having lived away from my home country for over 30 years, it’s a joy to once again indulge in the familiar tastes of the Nordic countries – and to reconnect with the comforting memories of childhood celebrations. There's something deeply nostalgic about biting into a warm kanelbulle or savoring a piece of a Princess cake, especially when it's made just right.

With so many Swedish and Nordic people visiting and living locally, it’s no surprise that Nybakat is always buzzing. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with that typical early morning ritual of strong, hot coffee – not ljummet (lukewarm) – served just the way we Nordics like it. I even get to practice my Swedish again!

Nybakat proudly celebrates Swedish holidays throughout the year, including Fettisdagen with fluffy semlor, Sveriges nationaldag with festive cakes, and special treats for Midsummer, Lucia, and more. These seasonal highlights add to the sense of home and tradition that Nybakat brings to the Costa del Sol.
