Weekly Markets - Fresh, Local, and Full of Life

Every week, the towns of Nerja, Torrox, Caleta de Vélez, and Torre del Mar come alive with the vibrant energy of their local markets—where fresh produce, smiling faces, and the aroma of sun-ripened fruit fill the air. Most of them have same sellers but the Torre del Mar is the largest. Visiting just Nerja, not a problem, you will find excellent products here too.

These bustling street markets are more than just a place to shop—they’re a way of life. Locals gather with their baskets and trolleys to stock up on the week’s essentials: various types of tomatoes, crisp lettuces, juicy oranges, most seasonal fruits and vegetables —fresh from nearby farms. It’s a celebration of Andalusia’s agricultural richness, where everything from wild honey and fragrant herbs, to local olive oil and colorful spices are laid out with care and pride.

Shopping at these markets means buying straight from the source. Supporting local farmers, reducing transport emissions, and savoring produce that hasn’t traveled hundreds of miles. Eating seasonally means tasting food when it’s at its peak: sweet summer peaches, spring asparagus, autumn pumpkins, and winter citrus—each with its moment to shine. The markets also offer a colorful array of traditional Andalusian artisan crafts, handmade clothing, and unique household products—perfect for discovering the region’s rich culture and craftsmanship.

The prices? Fair and refreshing. Without supermarket markups, you can fill your bags with real food and know your euros are staying in the community. You’re not just shopping; you’re investing in the region, its people, and the environment.

If you’re visiting, take the time to stroll the stalls, chat with the vendors, and try something new. Learn what’s in season. Don´t be afraid to try local fruits such as nísperos (loquats), paraguayos (doughnutpeaches), membrillo (quince), granadas (pomegranates), and the creamy, custard-like chirimoya (custard apple)—seasonal delights that offer a true taste of the region’s sun-soaked orchards.
