Do You Get Around By Electric Scooter? 🛴
From 1 October 2026, the rules change.
Get up to date before you ride!
1. Under 15? Wait a little Minimum legal age: 15 years.
If you are under 15, the law prohibits you from riding an electric scooter on public roads. You’ll have to wait, or get around by bicycle or on foot.
2. Your mandatory kit — don’t forget it!
Approved helmet
Always. Properly fastened — it’s compulsory! Not wearing one can result in a €200 fine.
Reflective clothing
At night or in poor visibility. In tunnels, fog or rain — visible from 150 metres.
Front and rear lights
Always on. Make yourself visible from the very first second.
3. The 4 basic rules on the street
🚫 Pavements are off limits. The pavement is for pedestrians. Ride in the cycle lane or on the road.
👤 1 scooter = 1 person
Strictly one person only. Carrying a passenger is prohibited.
🎧 No music or screens
No headphones and no mobile phone in your hand. Keep your eyes and ears on the traffic.
🎯 Zero tolerance (0.0)
For those under 18, the permitted alcohol level is 0.0 g/l. Not a single drop.
4. Keep your paperwork in order
Mandatory insurance
Active civil liability insurance.
Official registration
Visible identification number.
Identification plate
The identification plate must be visible.
