Frigiliana Celebrates the 11th Sugar Cane Honey Day
The beautiful village of Frigiliana will host the 11th edition of the Día de la Miel de Caña on May 2nd — a festive day dedicated to one of its most iconic local products.
The official opening takes place at 12:00 in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, where the celebrations will continue throughout the afternoon until 19:00. Visitors and locals alike can enjoy a lively programme including a Sabor a Málaga market, along with a selection of local products and a gastronomic bar by Óleo Frigiliana.
Music and tradition will fill the village all day long, with performances from the Frigiliana Flamenco Group led by Ángela Muñoz, the Peña La Amistad Rociero Choir, and the Coros y Danzas de Frigiliana. There will also be live performances by Macarena Albarracín and Rubelín, alongside traditional dances that will keep the atmosphere vibrant from start to finish.
From 11:00, visitors will have the rare opportunity to enjoy free guided visits to the sugar cane honey factory — the only day of the year when it opens its doors to the public.
From 12:30, free tastings will be offered in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, prepared by local associations including Azalea, El Abanico Andaluz, and Hogar Cruz de Pinto.
Among the traditional treats to try are:
Arropía
Marcocha
Spiced bread
Tortillas with honey
Aubergines with sugar cane honey
— offering a truly unique taste of this deeply rooted local tradition.
The 11th Día de la Miel de Caña is a perfect opportunity to experience the culture, gastronomy, and traditions of Frigiliana in a warm, festive and family-friendly atmosphere.
