The “Reola” at the Balcón de Europa will once again provide the unique setting for Nerja’s contemporary dance showcase, Nerjadanza, which this year celebrates its 21st anniversary while staying true to the vision with which it was created: bringing contemporary dance closer to audiences of all ages. The announcement was made by Deputy Mayor Francisco Arce and Councillor for Culture Ana María Muñoz.
Dates: Thursday 11 June to Sunday 14 June.
Marcos Vargas and Chloé Brûlé, who enjoyed great success during the festival’s early years two decades ago, return with their production Universal Shipwreck. Throughout the four-day programme, La Ballesta, La Triangular, Mövra, Enrique Vicent, La Guajira and La Casquería will present a series of short contemporary dance pieces. The festival will conclude on Sunday with a dance and circus performance by La Petite.
As in recent editions, the programme will also feature the University of Málaga Dance Workshop, the resident company directed by Fernando Hurtado, who was recently awarded the Lorca Prize for Best Dance Performer by the Andalusian Academy of Performing Arts, as well as the Nerja Municipal Dance School.
This year will also see the return of educational performances at the Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja.
For younger children, a specially created dance performance exploring different abilities will be presented. For young people, the Conservatory of Dance Ángel Pericet in Málaga will once again offer its annual programme of short performances, providing an introduction to the expressive language and artistic possibilities of contemporary dance.
The Town Hall invites residents and visitors alike to enjoy these remarkable performances which, through their quality, creativity and beauty, promise to leave a lasting impression. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Balcón de Europa, the heart of Nerja’s tourism and cultural life, Nerjadanza continues to offer a unique opportunity to experience contemporary dance in an unforgettable open-air setting.
