Feria de las Maravillas 2025 in Maro – Small village, Big heart

Every September, the quiet little village of Maro—just a few minutes east of Nerja—explodes into colour for the Feria de las Maravillas, a celebration in honour of the Virgen de las Maravillas (Virgin of Wonders). It’s intimate, musical, deeply traditional—and absolutely welcoming.

Dates: Friday 5 to Monday 8 September 2025. Expect four days of dancing, food, music and heartfelt devotion centred around Plaza de las Maravillas.

What’s on this year

  • Opening night · Friday 5th September
Chupinazo (rocket launch), parade through Maro’s narrow streets with marching band, opening speech by Antonio Gallardo Moreno (“Antoñín el del Municipal”) and the election of the 2025 Queen and Ladies. Music and dancing carry on into the night.

  • Senior Day · Saturday 6th September
A warm tribute to the elders of the community, with the traditional lunch alongside the Queen and Ladies.

  • Floral Offering · Sunday 7th September
The village dresses the Virgin with flowers in a tender, communal act of devotion.

  • Big Day · Monday 8th September
Mass and the grand procession of the Virgen de las Maravillas, this year paying special tribute to grandmothers—a beautiful nod to the women who keep traditions alive.

Music & shows.: Look out for Somos del Sur and Klandestinos with their lively tribute to Los Delincuentes, Extremoduro, Fito & Fitipaldis, plus orchestras, dance performances, equestrian and sports activities, and plenty of local gastronomy.

Why you’ll love Maro’s feria

Unlike the larger Nerja Feria, Maro’s celebration is cosy and close-knit. You’ll see neighbours greeting each other, kids dashing across the plaza, flamenco dresses swirling, and music drifting late into the night. It feels like being welcomed into a village family—and for a few days, you are.

Practical tips

  • Getting there: Maro is about 3 km from Nerja. If you’re staying in town, you can walk in 25–30 minutes or take a quick taxi or bus.

  • Parking: Limited in the centre—arrive early or park outside the village and stroll in.

  • What to bring: Comfortable shoes, a camera, and room for tapas (save space for something sweet from the stalls).

Where it all happens

Everything revolves around Plaza de las Maravillas—the beating heart of the village—so it’s easy to immerse yourself without rushing from place to place. Feria de las Maravillas 2025 is more than a party; it’s a living thread of tradition, devotion and community joy. If you’re anywhere near Nerja this September, come to Maro, join the songs and the applause, and let a small village steal your heart.
