Anahí Café – Breakfast Over the Calahonda Beach

Anahí Café – Breakfast Over the Calahonda Beach

If there’s ever a moment to slow down in Nerja, it’s at breakfast — and there’s hardly a better place to do it than perched on the little terrace of Anahí Café, right by the iconic Balcón de Europa.

Tucked away on Calle Puerta del Mar, Anahí is one of those spots that feels like it’s always been there — familiar to locals and a pleasant surprise for visitors who stumble upon it while wandering down to the sea. With the Mediterranean glistening just below and Calahonda beach peeking out between palm trees, this small café is all about keeping it simple: fresh coffee, homemade pastries, and sunshine on your face.

Mornings here start early. Locals gather for a café con leche and a slice of tortilla española before work, while visitors linger a bit longer over warm churros dipped in thick hot chocolate. The menu isn’t fancy — think classic ham and cheese toasties, freshly squeezed orange juice, light salads, sweet crepes, and a daily spread of cakes and pastries that tempt you the moment you walk in. There’s even the occasional nod to faraway flavours, with a small sushi roll or two appearing on the menu.

The inside is cosy and bright, but if you can, grab a spot outside. The terrace is small and fills up fast, especially on sunny days when everyone wants a seat with that postcard view of the Balcón and the sparkling sea. It’s the kind of place where time slows down — a quick coffee easily turns into an hour of people-watching and daydreaming about staying in Nerja forever.

Anahí Café holds fond memories for many. It’s a place where you feel just as great sitting alone with your thoughts as you do surrounded by friends. When I first arrived in Nerja, this was the café where I’d meet up with like-minded souls on chilly winter mornings, chatting for hours over endless cups of tea as the town slowly came to life around us.

One thing that makes Anahí stand out, time and again, is the staff. Always fast, friendly and attentive, they somehow manage to keep things moving even when the terrace is full. I’ve never had to wait long for a coffee or a warm croissant — a small detail that makes lingering here feel even better.

For such a prime location, prices are surprisingly cheap. It’s one of those places where you can sit with a coffee and pastry, soak up million-euro views, and still feel like you’ve stumbled on one of Nerja’s best-kept little secrets.
