El Playazo - Nerja’s Laid-Back Stretch of Sand, Sea and Chiringitos

Just a gentle stroll from the western edge of Nerja’s centre, El Playazo opens up in contrast to the town’s smaller coves. Wide, welcoming, and delightfully unpretentious, this is where Nerja loosens its buttons a little — a place where locals, families, and sun-seekers all blend into one easygoing beach vibe.

Unlike the picture-perfect cliffs of Carabeo or Calahonda, Playazo stretches flat and long — a golden ribbon of sand that seems to go on forever. Getting here and parking is simple: There are 3 big sandy car parks right behind the beach. They’re just open gravel areas where you can pull in and park - free and very convenient. You'll find them spread out along the beach, near the chiringitos. In summer they can get busy but as Playazo is so large, you will always find space.

El Playazo isn’t fancy — and that’s exactly the point. You’ll find sunbeds for rent, cold beers served straight to your lounger, and hearty Andalusian meals at the beach bars. Some days the sea is flat and gentle, perfect for a lazy swim. Other times, playful waves roll in, just enough for a bit of fun but rarely wild. Families love it here for the space — plenty of room for games, paddle bats, or simply stretching out without bumping elbows.

There’s no need to bring much with you. Everything you need is within easy reach: loungers, umbrellas, fresh sardines sizzling over open fires, jugs of sangría, or even a quick paella straight from the pan. This is classic Costa living, Nerja style.

We love popping down here on days when we don’t want a plan. Grab a sunbed, order a tinto de verano, and just be. It’s that kind of place.

And when hunger calls, Playazo delivers.

Places to Eat:

  • Chiringuito Mauri – A local institution for fresh seafood, famous beachside paellas, and that laid-back vibe you only get when your feet are in the sand.

  • Chiringuito El Chankete – Known for its espetos (sardines on the skewer) and friendly prices.

  • Las Palmeras Beach Club – Nerja Amigos Approved! Our favorite place with morning menu until 11.30 and lunch menu until 16.30. Very nice big salads, not only Spanish food but also some Asian flavours. Very good prices and that Beach Club vibe.

Where to Stay Nearby:

Ideal if you want a beachy escape with the town still within walking distance. A few picks nearby (Nerja Amigo scouting still pending!):

  • Marinas de Nerja Beach and Spa – Beachfront hotel with a pool and spa, a favourite for families and couples alike. A bit further away from Nerja town centre.

  • Hotel Perla Marina –  Beachfront hotel, between Playazo beach and Torrecilla beach, closer to town centre.

  • El Playazo Bungalows & Camping – For those who like their beach days with a touch of rustic charm.

Best thing: You will ALWAYS find parking in one of the 3 car parks! Car might just need a wash afterwards :)
