Carabeo - Cosy Streets, Budget Bites and Secret Sands

Tucked just a few steps from Nerja’s lively centre, Carabeo Beach is one of those places that makes you pause the moment you spot it from above. A moment of awe! Small but striking, this sheltered cove feels like a secret slice of paradise for anyone who finds their way down.

Getting there is part of the charm — a short stroll along Calle Carabeo leads to stairways that zigzag down the cliffs. It’s quite a few steps, so pack light and wear sensible shoes. But once your feet hit the soft golden sand, it’s worth every step.

Calm, clear waters lap the shore, framed by dramatic rocks that double as sunbathing spots. From the road above, the view is breathtaking — blues and greens glittering in the sun, the coastline curling away like a painted backdrop.

In summer, Carabeo can get busy, so the best plan is to arrive early with a towel and your own shade. There are no sunbeds for hire, no beach bars or chiringuitos — just a small kiosk if you need a cool drink or an ice cream. It’s all part of the simple charm: bring what you need and settle in. We love being tourist for a day in Carabeo !

When you’re hungry, climb back up to the pedestrian street above where small restaurants serve pizzas, pastas and simple dishes for just a few euros. Nothing fancy, just satisfying and wallet friendly and it fills you up nicely before heading back down for another swim or a stroll around town.

Take a slow wander through the traditional Carabeo neighbourhood — whitewashed houses, flowering balconies, and that timeless Nerja feel that makes even locals play tourist for the afternoon.

Carabeo is the kind of beach that reminds you how easy it is to escape without going far: clear sea, warm rocks, no frills — just the beauty of Nerja, one step at a time.
