Luna, Max and Nico - At the Centro Cultural Watching Robin Hood
On a bright early-evening in Nerja, Luna, Max and Nico were getting ready for something special: they were going to the Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja to watch Robin Hood by Jabetín Teatro.
Max stood in front of the mirror practising his brave voice. “I am… Robiiiin Hoooood!” he announced, then immediately started giggling at himself.
Luna smiled and folded their tickets carefully into her little bag. “Remember,” she said, “in the theatre we use our quiet bodies and our listening ears.”
Nico sat very straight with his blue bandana on, as if he was the most serious theatre dog in Andalusia. Then his tail thumped once, like: I am ready.
When they arrived, the cultural centre felt different from the beach and the caves. It was warm and busy, with families chatting, shoes tapping on the floor, and the soft rustle of programmes. Luna showed Max how to find their row, and they slid into their seats like secret agents.
“Look at the stage!” Max whispered. “It’s like a doorway into another world.”
The lights dimmed. Everything went quiet. Even Nico stopped wiggling.
Then -music! And there he was: Robin Hood, leaping into Sherwood Forest with a grin, clever as a fox. The actors changed voices and costumes so fast Max’s eyes went wide.
“He’s helping people,” Luna whispered, watching closely. “That’s the good kind of brave.”
Max nodded. “Brave isn’t only swords,” he whispered back. “Brave is doing what’s fair.”
Nico made the tiniest “woof” at the funniest part, like he couldn’t help it, and Luna gently placed a finger to her lips. Nico blinked, then did what he does best: he watched with big, wise eyes.
When the Sheriff appeared, stomping and shouting, Max squeezed Luna’s hand for a second. The Sheriff was loud, and it felt a bit scary.
Luna leaned in. “Mini-calm,” she whispered. “One slow breath in… and out. Remember: it’s pretend, and we’re safe.”
Max tried it. His shoulders dropped. The story became exciting again instead of too much.
On stage, Robin Hood and his friends outsmarted the Sheriff with teamwork, jokes, and smart plans. Max loved the quick tricks. Luna loved how everyone helped each other. Nico loved… well, Nico loved the dramatic bows, because everyone clapped and clapped and clapped.
When the show ended, the actors came forward and the audience cheered. Max clapped so hard his hands turned warm. Luna clapped calmly but with bright eyes, the way she does when she’s really happy.
Outside, the night air felt fresh on their faces. The streetlights made golden circles on the pavement, like tiny moons.
“So,” Luna asked, “what did we learn?”
Max thought for a moment. “That being a hero doesn’t mean being the strongest. It means being kind and fair, even when it’s hard.”
Nico wagged his tail like a metronome: yes, yes, yes.
Luna smiled. “And we learned something else too,” she said. “In a theatre, we practise respect—quiet bodies, listening ears, and clapping to say thank you.”
As they walked home through Nerja, Max kept pretending to draw an imaginary bow, and Nico kept trotting proudly between them, like the tiniest guard dog in Sherwood Forest.
And Luna, with the tickets safe in her bag, felt the best kind of star inside her: the one you notice when you’ve had a lovely night, learned something true, and shared it with your favourite friends.
On the way home, they chatted about what else happens at the Centro Cultural. Luna said it isn’t only for big people - there are fun children’s shows too, with stories, music, dancing, and sometimes even special family events.
Max’s eyes sparkled. “I want to be an actor one day!” he said, doing a tiny bow on the pavement.
Luna twirled gently and said she’d love to learn dance, and Nico decided he would be a musician, because his paws were perfect for tap-tap-tapping a beat.
Luna told Max that kids in Nerja can join classes like the Escuela Municipal de Música y Danza de Nerja, where children learn instruments and dance, and there are also local dance groups where kids practise flamenco, ballet, and modern moves.
Max hugged his imaginary script to his chest. “So we can watch a story tonight… and learn to make our own story another day!” Nico wagged his tail like applause.
Mindful Mini- Lesson:
Next time something feels loud or a bit scary (even if it’s only a story), do what Max did: take one slow breath in, one slow breath out, and remind yourself, “I’m safe, and I can handle this.” Then choose the kind thing—because real bravery is being fair and gentle, just like Robin Hood.
