Alice Christmas at Málaga’s Botanic Garden - A Magical Winter Wonderland
Málaga is full of Christmas treats at this time of year, with the city glowing from the moment the Christmas Festive Lights switch on. Calle Larios draws the biggest crowds as its evening light and music displays turn the centre into a sparkling celebration, while the Christmas markets at Paseo del Parque offer handmade gifts, seasonal sweets and cosy seaside strolls. With so much magic close by, there’s yet another reason to visit this season — a fairytale experience waiting just beyond the city at the Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción.
Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción
During the festive season something extraordinary happens. As evening falls, the garden transforms into a glowing fantasy world inspired by Alice in Wonderland, turning winding paths, waterfalls and towering palms into a dream-like journey through light, music and colour. It feels as if the story has slipped quietly into real life and invited everyone to follow.
The experience runs from 28 November to 6 January, with timed evening entries from 18:30 to 22:30. Families wander past illuminated teacups and giant playing cards, children chase sparkling lights through tropical leaves, and the lake reflects glowing installations that look like they belong in another world entirely. It’s gentle rather than noisy, making it perfect for little ones and for adults who want something magical without the crowds of the city centre.
From Nerja it takes around one hour by car, following the A-7 towards Málaga and exiting near Ciudad Jardín. There is parking next to the garden and, on busy nights, attendants guide visitors to nearby overflow areas. Because tickets can sell out on weekends and during the Christmas holidays, booking online in advance is recommended.
Opening Times:
The garden has normal daytime opening hours of 09:30 to 20:30 from 1 April to 30 September, and 09:30 to 17:30 from 1 October to 31 March. It is closed on 25 December, 1 January, and all Mondays unless the Monday is a local holiday. Guided tours lasting about one and a half hours are available only by prior reservation by telephone or email.
Whether you go with friends, children or as a cosy winter date, Alice Christmas brings a touch of magic that feels close yet wonderfully far from everyday life. If you’re looking for something different this season, it’s a lovely escape and an unforgettable way to step into the holidays.
