The Day of All Saints (Día de Todos los Santos) is observed in Nerja on Saturday, 1 November 2025. It is a national public holiday in Spain, dedicated to honoring all saints and remembering loved ones who have passed away.
Traditions in Nerja
On this day, families typically visit Nerja’s cemetery to pay their respects to deceased relatives. Graves are cleaned and decorated with fresh flowers—especially chrysanthemums—and often candles are lit, creating a peaceful and reflective atmosphere. While some Spanish regions hold night vigils, in Nerja the commemoration usually takes place during the day in a calm and respectful setting.

The 8th of December is Inmaculada Concepción, or the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, one of Spain’s important Catholic celebrations and a national public holiday.
In Nerja, the day forms part of the traditional build-up to Christmas, with religious celebrations taking place in the town and the festive season beginning to gather pace.
For visitors, it’s a lovely opportunity to experience a quieter side of Spanish and Andalusian traditions, as families and local communities come together to mark this important day in the Catholic calendar.
With Christmas just around the corner, the 8th of December also signals that Nerja is well and truly entering the festive season, with Christmas lights, decorations and seasonal events beginning to appear throughout Nerja and Maro.

La Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos
The Cabalgata Comes to Town

On the evening of 5 January, Nerja gathers along the streets for one of the most beautiful parades of the year: the Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos. Families arrive early to find a good spot, children hold out their hands for sweets, and the whole town feels alive.
The parade winds through the centre with colourful floats, local dance groups, musicians and of course Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar. They greet everyone as they pass, waving from their carriages, reminding young and old that magic is still very real.
Shops and cafés stay open, the atmosphere feels warm and festive, and the laughter of children fills the streets. For many families in Nerja, this is the true highlight of the Christmas season.

Nerja prepares to celebrate its Patron Saints, Our Lady of Sorrows (Virgen de las Angustias) and Saint Michael the Archangel (San Miguel Arcángel), with traditional religious ceremonies and processions.

Three evenings of religious services in honour of Nerja’s Patron Saints.

The celebrations culminate with Mass at 19:00, followed by the traditional procession of the Virgen de las Angustias and San Miguel Arcángel through the streets of Nerja.
Residents and visitors are invited to take part in these celebrations of local tradition, devotion and community.

Veladilla de San Miguel
Veladilla de San Miguel
Plaza de Andalucía, in the Las Protegidas neighbourhood, will once again be at the heart of the Veladilla de San Miguel celebrations.
The programme for this year’s festivities has now been presented. The celebration will take place from 17 to 20 September, in a particularly significant year marking the 15th anniversary of the revival and reorganisation of the Veladilla.
The official posters (below in images) for this year’s celebration were also unveiled. The main poster was created by Rocío San Martín, whose painting portrays a neighbourhood rich in roots, identity and tradition. The children’s poster was created by Lucía Jiménez, capturing the importance and excitement that the Veladilla de San Miguel holds for younger residents.
This year’s opening address (pregón) will be given by Francisco Gumersindo, known as Paco El Apañao, a local resident with strong ties to Las Protegidas. The youth opening address will be given by Erika Ramos Algarín.
On 17 September, the traditional José Alaminos Façade and Entranceway Competition will celebrate its 14th edition, alongside a flamenco bag workshop.
The main celebration will once again include the election of the Children’s, Youth and Senior Queen and Gentleman, the Gran Cucaña, a dessert competition, a football tournament, and a wide variety of activities for all ages.
Music will also play a major part in the festivities. One of the highlights will be a concert by Las Soles on Saturday 19 September. The traditional Rociero Choir Gathering will take place on Friday, alongside other musical performances throughout the programme.
One of the most special moments will be the traditional floral offering to San Miguel, taking place on Saturday afternoon.
They also reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to supporting Las Protegidas and working alongside the Residents’ Association to ensure that this traditional celebration continues to grow and thrive.

Participants must have a family connection to a member of the association with at least six months’ membership or live in La Barriada.
All participants must wear traditional dress. Late arrivals will not be admitted. Children who have previously been elected in another edition cannot participate again.
